Projects within the CCR’s Research program fall into the following categories:

Empirical

Investigating the nature and potentials of consciousness via long-term, full-time contemplative training, with an emphasis on attention training (see Pilot Study).

Investigating the nature and potentials of genuine well-being, grounded in the conceptual framework of the Sixfold Matrix of Mental Balance.

Epistemological

Advancing mixed-methods research designs in contemplative science by increasing the possibility for convergence across first-, second-, and third-person approaches (see Pilot Study).

Researching ethics as a tool to augment empirical inquiry and well-being (see The Code of Ethics for Contemplative Science).

Conceptual Integration

Investigating “bridging” concepts that can help integrate modern scientific and ancient contemplative models of reality (e.g., metacognition).

Tool Development

Publishing a resource library for contemplative science (see Library).

Developing tools for scholarly communication in contemplative science (see Micropublication System).
