Guidance for ethical and constructive collaboration between contemplatives and the scientific community
As the scope of science expands to fully encompass mental phenomena, scientists are increasingly finding fruitful avenues for collaboration with contemplatives — practitioners of various meditative traditions that have been exploring the nature and potentials of consciousness for millennia. Acknowledging the disparate worldviews and motivations typically associated with the world’s scientific and contemplative traditions, The Code of Ethics for Contemplative Science offers practical guidance for such collaboration. In particular, this document calls on researchers to honor each contemplative’s potential to inform the conceptual frameworks that guide research and to make genuine discoveries that can be evaluated via intersubjective verification.
