Empathetic Joy: Delight in Others’ Virtues

Empathetic joy is the third of the Four Immeasurables.

“Having ideals and goals may provide inspiration, direction, and coherence to one’s life, but it can also lead to ambition and to frustration about not making progress fast enough. So it’s good to balance such striving with an aspect of the practice that has nothing to do with goals and achievements, and one such practice is the cultivation of empathetic joy (muditā). This is simply the act of rejoicing in the well-being of others.”

– Dr. B Alan Wallace, The Four Immeasurables (emphasis added).

This session was featured in the CCR’s first Ghatika Monthly Session with Dr. Clara Seeger.

Dr. Wallace recorded a total of 48 guided meditations with Cultivating Emotional Balance (CEB), all of which can be found on the CEB Soundcloud page.
